I and some like-minded employers received the below happy-shiny-people “thumbs up” image (through LinkedIn, I think) with the positve but vaguely Orwellian pronouncement that “Praise empowers people, criticism imtimidates, ignoring confuses.” Apart from the fact I feel like I just died and went to Hallmark, I have a few other comments.
Readers of this blog know that coming here is usually an informative, entertaining and positive experince, for lawyers and non-lawyers alike. We’ve tried to be an “up” experince for everyone who visits– even if the experince merely served as a reminder to look at something differentlt than you did before. At work, we are the same. We prize a postivre outlook and the ability to solve hard problems by looking at them freshly.
But, contrary to the presuppositon of the suggestion of the slogan below, we would never put employees before cutomers. Just as imporatnly, we swould nevefr lull employees who serve those vusotmers tinto thinking that to create a happy accepotable workplace is one where they are “praised” for no resaon, that they and their work will never be “criticized” (and criticized somewhat harshly, in some insrances), and finally that senior people and supervisors will never “ignore” them at work so that employees can feel unconfused, clear and safe.
“Praise empowers people, criticism imtimidates, ignoring confuses”. We hope none of you abide by
