I spend a lot of time here. Like my beloved alma mater hundreds of miles away, it is s small but serious socially conservative community of reasonable men and smart women that works hard to produce young adults who may some day take their places as high-functioning members of the ultra>-bourgeoisie.
Ah, Suburban San Diego. It’s “stiff”, reactionary and semi-literate. But no problem. It’s a great place to rest, and think. I get the people. And like them. Unlike the more energetic and erudite out-of-state world beaters and dream builders who move to Los Angeles–LA transplants tend to hail from the Northeast–newcomers to Southern California are from safe enclaves of the American Midwest and and South. As one friend notes, San Diego and Orange counties are, at best, Ohio with Water–and, at worst, Death with a View. It’s getting better, though. Slowly, in small waves, deeply conservative San Diego and Orange do improve every day in terms of diversity of peoples, and other ways of thinking.
