Easter, Victorian Verse and “The Windhover”.

If you like Easter, Gerard Manley Hopkins, his 1877 poem “The Windhover”, and/or Victorian age poetry, and no matter what if anything your spirituality might be, George Landow at Brown University offers us this “interlinear translation” of the short but rich Hopkins poem into “simpler if vastly less interesting or effective, language…” I first studied “The Windhover” at a marvelous place called Indian Hill High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. A Brown professor of English and Art History, Landow offers a translation here which, like this blogger, is 99% secular.
