In our world, you are never a tourist.

American traveling abroad are mouthy and often loud but at least a lot of us talk and ask questions. But we are still notoriously for confining themselves to our “Yank-bubble” wherever we go. We chose Marriots, seek out other American and seek the cheesburger. But the English are even worse. Apart from British reserve, Brits, whether they are traveling or not, would rather choke to death than ever ask a question about something they did not know.

So no need to act like one. When I travel in the U.S. and abroad, I am always struck how “tourists”–American, non-American, any non-resident–
