From the Eversheds 2018 report via Law Fuel: “partners believe work-life balance and excellent client service is a “˜contradiction in terms'”. This haunts me–because I think that the statement may be true, especially given the already poor service delivery of most service providers (lawyers and other professionals being just a small but important part of the “let’s-mail-it-in” problem). Whether you call it work-life balance or well-roundedness, and no matter who “gives” it to you, you need “it”: the opportunity and means to make your whole life a true work of art. But you need to serve clients with passion and energy–or get out of the game, my friends. What result? The New Sweat Shop, the New Mediocrity, or…?
