Washington, D.C.

Still wish I had left never East Capitol Street, on Capitol Hill, where I lived for 12 years. Visiting alone doesn’t cut it. Where on else on earth within 3 or 4 blocks in a residential neighborhood can you walk on historical ground, and get Shakespeare, the U.S. Supreme Court, places like Jimmy T’s and 50 saloons with genuinely interesting if driven people “buzzing” away? San Diego is “nice”–like Ohio with ocean, mountains and decent weather. I feel a little like Wordsworth in the Lake District; it’s not really the people that really grabs you. Eventually, I’m going home, even though they say you can’t do it.
